Summary
Breast cancer is the most common fatal malignancy in women, in Algeria; it’s
about 5000 new cases per year are identified.
In mammary tissue, a member of Cytochrome P450 family (CYP1A1) is involved
in the metabolism of estrogen leading to the synthesis of genotoxic compounds.
Four single nucleotide polymorphisms in CYP1A1 have been studied concerning
their potential implication in terms of breast cancer risk: m1, m2, m3 and m4 (m =
mutation).
We sought to study PCR-based RFLP assay of these polymorphisms in breast
cancer and the development of new early diagnostic biomarkers. Further studies of
the PCR-based RFLP assay on extensive sampling of the Algerian population are
needed.
