Laboratoire Plastes et Différenciation Cellulaire - UMR 5575
Proposition d’accueil d’ATIP 2006
The CNRS UMR 5575 “Plastes et Différenciation Cellulaire” (http://www-pdc.ujf-grenoble.fr) wishes
to host an ATIP team in 2006. The UMR is located on the campus of Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble
(French Alpes). It is composed of 22 permanent researchers and technicians, 14 post-doctoral fellows and PhD
students, and 6 undergraduates. The main topics actually developed in the unit concern molecular mechanisms and
molecular complexes involved in plastids and cell differentiation, in response to light and temperature stress
and/or hormone signals. We use combinations of biochemistry, cell biology, trancriptomics and reverse and direct
genetics. Besides access to the common facilities, a surface of at least 50 m2 will be allocated to the new team.
Theme 1: Plastids Differentiation and Senescence (Steffen REINBOTHE) (steffen.reinbothe@ujf-grenoble.fr)
We are interested in understanding how plants turn green after germination, how photosynthesis becomes
established in angiosperm seedlings. We have characterized a new light harvesting complex (LHPP) located in the
prolamelar body of chloroplasts. Another goal of our research is the study of the importation into the chloroplast
of the POR enzymes in relation to chloroplast development. We recently found that PORA is imported via a new
membrane protein complex, the protochorophyllide translocon (Ptc).
Theme 2: Transcription and Division of Plastids (Silva LERBS-MACHE) (silva.lerbs-mache@ujf-grenoble.fr)
We are interested to study the processes implicated in transcription of the plastid genome and in division
of the plastid. In particular, we are characterizing the RNA polymerases and transcription factors that function in
the transcription of the plastid genome as well as the proteins that play major roles in plastid division.
Theme 3: Gibberellins and Cell Differentiation (Michel HERZOG) ( michel.herzog@ujf-grenoble.fr )
We are interested in gibberellin hormones (GA) signaling and their role in cell differentiation. We
demonstrated links between GA signaling and molecular events that govern trichome (hair) initiation and trichome
cell morphogenesis. Current research focuses on a new family of plant specific transcription factors, named GeBP,
controled by BREVIPEDICELLUS, a KNOX homeobox regulator of organogenesis. BP downregulates GA
biosynthesis in the vicinity of the shoot apical meristem and shows expression patterns comparable to GeBPs.
