Centre for Research in Neurological Sciences (CRSN)
and the Groupe de recherche sur le système nerveux central (GRSNC)
“Spinal Cord Trauma : Neural Repair
and Functional Recovery”
Welcome to this international symposium on spinal cord trauma at Université de Montréal. This
symposium will cover, in a broad perspective, research on spinal cord injuries, encompassing
human spinal cord injury as well as experimental studies in animals, molecular mechanisms of
injury and regeneration. The scope will include rehabilitation and functional repair in human
patients and in animal models, strategies for neuroprotection and regeneration, cell transplanta-
tion into injured spinal cord, strategies to overcome growth inhibition, and possible roles of axon
guidance molecules in injury and regeneration. This 3 day symposium with more than 300 regis-
trants, 36 speakers and 75 posters will be a special occasion to discuss the topic of spinal trauma
at all scientific levels. We are particularly pleased that M. Christopher Reeve has accepted to be
Honorary Chair of this event. Our most sincere thanks to our sponsors for their generous sup-

«Traumatismes de la moelle épinière : Réparation neurale et
récupération fonctionnelle»
Bienvenue à l’Université de Montréal pour ce symposium international sur les traumatismes de la
moelle épinière. Ce symposium brossera un tableau de la recherche sur les traumatismes de la
moelle épinière, à partir des lésions chez l’humain jusqu’aux mécanismes moléculaires des lésions
traumatiques et de la régénération, en passant par les études expérimentales chez l’animal. Le
programme couvrira la réadaptation et la récupération fonctionnelle chez le patient et chez des
modèles animaux, les stratégies pour favoriser la neuroprotection et la régénération, la
transplantation de cellules dans la moelle épinière lésée, les stratégies visant à contrer l’inhibition
de la croissance axonale et l’implication éventuelle des molécules de guidage axonal dans les
processus lésionnels et de régénération. Ce symposium de 3 jours avec plus de 300 participants,
36 conférenciers et 75 affiches sera une occasion spéciale de discuter à tous les niveaux
scientifiques des traumatismes de la moelle épinière. Nous sommes particulièrement heureux
que M. Christopher Reeve ait accepté la présidence d’honneur de cet événement. Nos plus
