I am honoured to be in your midst this morning for the official opening of
this “Knowledge Fair on Climate Change” organized by my Ministry in
collaboration with the Rodrigues Regional Assembly.
At the very outset, allow me to express the gratitude of the Government of
Mauritius to the Government of Japan for funding the implementation of the
Africa Adaptation Programme on climate change to the tune of about
Rs 90 M. I would also like to thank the UNDP for providing the necessary
technical support in the implementation of this Programme. I also want to
extend my thanks to all stakeholders, resource persons and participants for
having positively responded and contributed in the implementation of the
AAP in Rodrigues.
As you may be aware, the implementation of the Africa Adaptation
Programme started in January 2010 and is due for completion by the end
of this month. Rodrigues has naturally been given special consideration
within the project. Some 30 activities have thus been executed by different
Ministries, the Rodrigues Regional Assembly and other public
organisations. These activities include, among others, the development of
a National Climate Change Adaptation Framework and the formulation of
climate resilient policies, a legislative framework, a disaster risk reduction
