Abstract: At McGill, rodents housed in individually ventilate cages (IVC) were routinely monitored for
pathogenic agents by the use of soiled bedding sentinels. However, wanting to take advantage of the recent
advances in exhaust air dust (EAD) testing as an alternative to sentinels has left CMARC with a few surprises on
the way! This presentation will guide you through the obstacles we faced when transforming of the Goodman
Cancer Centre into a sentinel-free animal facility!
À McGill, la surveillance des pathogènes chez les rongeurs en cages individuellement ventilées (CIV) était
basée sur l’utilisation des sentinelles hébergées dans de la litière souillée. Par contre, en voulant profiter des
nouveaux outils de surveillance tels que la surveillance de l’environnement et des poussières comme
alternative aux sentinelles, le département de CMARC a eu quelques petites surprises en cours de route !
Cette présentation vous guidera à travers les obstacles auxquels nous avons fait face lors de la transformation
du Goodman Cancer Center en une animalerie sans sentinelles.
