I have some wonderful
news for you! As you know
CANO has been searching for
a new editor for the Canadian
Oncology Nursing Journal
(CONJ). Now we’ve found one!
Dr. Margaret Fitch applied for
the position and we have happily accepted
her as Editor in Chief of the CONJ. At present
she is in a six-month orientation and will be
fully in charge on August 1, 2013.
Most CANO members either know,
or know of Dr. Fitch, but I’d like to give
you a short biography, too. She is a
native of Moncton, New Brunswick, and
has a Baccalaureate in Nursing from
Dalhousie University (Halifax). Her sub-
sequent degrees, Master of Science in
Nursing (Faculty of Nursing) and Doctor of
Philosophy (Institute of Medical Science) are
from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Fitch is Head of Oncology Nursing
and Director of the Patient and Family
Support Program at the Odette Cancer
Centre (Sunnybrook Health Sciences
Centre). She is Associate Professor in the
Faculty of Nursing and Professor in the
School of Graduate Studies at the University
of Toronto. She maintains an active research
program in supportive cancer care with
an emphasis on understanding patient
perspectives. Margaret Fitch has been an
invited speaker worldwide on matters
affecting oncology nurses from chemother-
apy to palliative care and has conducted
clinical workshops on cancer care within
Canada and throughout the world.
Dr. Fitch is the Expert Lead, Patient-
Reported Outcomes and Survivorship
with the Canadian Partnership Against
Cancer and provides leadership to fos-
ter person-centred cancer care across the
country. She is also a past president of the
International Society of Nurses in Cancer
Care and editorial board member of the
Multinational Association of Supportive
Care in Cancer journal.
Margaret Fitch is one of the founders
of CANO and was its first elected presi-
dent. Since that time she has been closely
involved with CANO and the CONJ, chiefly
as a presenter at CANO conferences and
a prolific writer of articles for the CONJ.
She brings to her new role as the CONJ
Editor-in-Chief a wealth of oncology nurs-
ing experience, provincially, nationally and
internationally. I know that the CONJ will
move forward to greater things, particularly
internationally, under Dr. Fitch’s guiding
hand.

J’ai une merveilleuse
nouvelle à vous annoncer!
Comme vous le savez, l’ACIO-
CANO était à la recherche
d’une nouvelle rédactrice
pour la Revue canadienne
de soins infirmiers en onco-
logie (RCSIO-CONJ).
également présidente sortante de l’In-
ternational Society of Nurses in Cancer
Care et membre du comité de rédaction
de la revue professionnelle publiée par la
Multinational Association of Supportive
Care in Cancer.
international.
