CHALLENGE JETLINER GT – DAEDALVS Edition
In the tradition of the JETLINER collection, relentless in the pursuit of
lightness, Cystos presents a new version of the model Challenge Jet-Liner:
Challenge Jet Liner GT - Daedalus Edition
Having studied the case and movement of the watch, it is with a new dial that
this indispensable model is presented… gaining still more in lightness to give
a more eye-catching appearance.
This novelty is inspired by the know-how of DAEDALVS, the architect, craftsman and
sculptor of incomparable genius in Greek mythology.
Born in Athens of royal descent, DAEDALVS roamed the Mediterranean, fleeing the
royal palace of KNOSSOS in Crete where he was held prisoner. This complex
building was one of his greatest creations, commissioned by King Minos and better
known as the labyrinth, guarded by a monster with the body of a man and the head
of a bull, more commonly called the Minotaur.
In Greek mythology this architectural monument figures in several stories including:

« The flight of Icarus »
It was with the aid of wings made of feathers and wax for the structure ( consisting
of beehive shelves) that he made his flight from the island of Crete together with his
son ICARVS. The latter, exhilarated by the flight, disobeyed his father and rose so
high in the sky that the heat of the sun fatally melted the wax of his wings… he
plunged into the sea… and was drowned.
DAEDALVS found refuge in Sicily, with King KOKALOS. In exchange for his
protection KOKALOS, in his matchless vanity, demanded a palace as ostentatious
and majestic as that of King Minos. In order to impress the king, DAEDALVS
produced a number of works. In particular he created for the king’s daughter,
Aphrodite of Erice, a golden jewel whose shape and structure recreated the shelves
of the beehive. History recounts that the perfection in the execution of this jewel
made it impossible to distinguish how such a result was obtained, so amazing was
the degree of realism. Legend has it that this jewel, both exceptional and unique, was
made from a plaster mould originating from a real honeycomb.
DAEDALVS had just invented the technique of investment casting…
Homage to DAEDALVS
This new version of the mythical Challenge Jet Liner with its metallic dial stretches to
the limits the technologies applied, paying homage to DAEDALVS.
The brand’s spirit of genius creates an innovative process of laser cutting without
deformation either for the honeycomb structure or for the railway of the dial’s minute
circle, sculpted from a solid, the latter coming from a titanium sheet of two tenths of a
millimetre…

Dans la lignée de la collection JETLINER, toujours à la recherche
obsessionnelle de légèreté, Cvstos présente une nouvelle version du modèle
Challenge Jet-Liner :
Challenge Jet Liner GT - Daedalus Edition
Après avoir étudié la boite et le mouvement de la montre, c’est sous un
nouveau cadran que ce modèle incontournable se présente… Gagner toujours
et encore en légèreté pour un résultat à l’aspect plus accrocheur.
Cette nouveauté est inspirée du savoir faire de DAEDALVS architecte, artisan et
sculpteur de la mythologie grecque au géni incomparable.
Né à Athènes, de descendance royale, DAEDALVS a parcouru la Méditerranée,
fuyant le palais royal de CNOSSOS en Crête ou il était retenu prisonnier. Cet édifice
complexe, fut l’une de ses plus grandes créations, commanditée par le roi Minos plus
connu sous l’appellation du labyrinthe gardée par un monstre ayant un corps
d’homme à la tête de taureau, plus communément appelé le Minotaure.
De la mythologie grecque, ce monument architectural, prend place au sein de
plusieurs récits dont :

« Thésée et le fil D’Ariane »
« L’envol d’Icare »
C’est à l’aide d’ailes faites de plumes et de cire pour la structure (faite en des
rayons de ruche d’abeille), qu’il entreprit de fuir l’île de Crête en compagnie de son
fils ICARVS. Ce dernier enthousiasmé par le vol, désobéit à son père et monta si
haut dans le ciel, que la chaleur du soleil fatalement, fit fondre la cire de ses ailes… il
s’abîmât en mer… Et périt noyé.
DAEDALVS se refugiât en Sicile, auprès du roi KOKALOS. En échange de sa
protection, KOKALOS à la vanité sans égal revendique un palais aussi faste et
majestueux que celui de du roi Minos. Afin d’éblouir le roi, DAEDALVS mena donc à
bien plusieurs travaux. Il créa notamment pour la fille du roi, Aphrodite d’Erice, une
parure d’or dont la forme et la structure recréaient les rayons de la ruche du nid
d’abeille. L’histoire rapporte que la perfection d’exécution de ce bijou, ne permettait
pas de distinguer la façon de procéder à l’obtention d’un tel résultat, d’un réalisme
époustouflant. La légende dit que, cette parure aussi exceptionnelle qu’unique, fut
créée à partir d’un moulage de plâtre, issu d’un véritable nid d’abeille.
DAEDALVS venait d’inventer la technique de moulage à la cire perdue…
Hommage à DAEDALVS
Cette nouvelle version de la mythique Challenge Jet Liner au cadran métallique,
pousse à l’extrême les technologies appliquées, rendant hommage à DAEDALVS.
L’esprit de génie de la marque, met au point un procédé novateur de découpe laser
sans déformation, pour la structure en nid d’abeille, ainsi que du chemin de fer de la
minuterie du cadran, taillé dans la masse, ce dernier est issu d’une feuille de titane
de 2 dixièmes de millimètres…
