Il y a des témoins du monde, ceux qui disent tout haut ce qu’on pense plus bas, ni gourous,
ni maîtres, mais qui considèrent que la cité, le monde, peuvent être pensés. Le sociologue
Pierre Bourdieu est de ceux-là. Pendant trois ans, la caméra de Pierre Carles l’a suivi dans
des situations d’échange différentes. C’est une pensée qui se déploie comme familière, à côté
de nous, et toujours abordable, celle d’un intellectuel qui choisit de penser son temps, prônant
l’intelligence et l’analyse comme armes fatales.
Je dis souvent que la sociologie c’est un sport de combat, c’est un instrument de self-défense.
On s’en sert pour se défendre, essentiellement, et on n’a pas le droit de s’en servir pour faire

There are people in the world who are willing to bear witness. They are neither gurus nor
masters, but intellectuals who consider that society and polity must be carefully analysed.
Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu is one such witness. Over three years, Pierre Carles followed him
at work in a variety of public settings. Through his lens, Bourdieu’s thinking gradually acquires
a familiarity which brings it into our reach. This documentary allows us to enter into the
thinking of an engaged social scientist who has chosen to think his times.
