According to you, what is the purpose of school?

o (1) L'énumération

The purpose of school is to learn, [to be able to

to socialize]
→ The purpose of school is to learn as well as
being able to stay well in society.
NB: “as well as” sert à relier 2 mots de même
nature.
 Verbe + as well as + verbe (ex: the purpose
of school is to learn as well as being / to be
able to stay well in society)
 Nom + as well as + nom (ex: a boarding
school is a school as well as a house).
→ The purpose of school is not only to
learn, but also to socialize.
NB: Comme pour “as well as”, not
only...but also relie des mots de même
nature grammaticale.

→ Ex: a boarding school is not only a
school but also a house.
o (2) L'opposition
Traduire: “L'école est un endroit pour
développer sa vie sociale, mais il ne
faut pas trop bavarder avec ses
voisines.”
→ The school is a place to socialize, but
you mustn't / shouldn't talk too much
with your neighbours.
→ The school is a place to socialize.
However/ (Nonetheless), you mustn't /
shouldn't talk too much with your
neighbours.
(3) La cause, la conséquence
School is a way /a place to socialize
and to learn to be a good citizen.
→ School is a place to socialize in order
to become a good citizen.
(conséquence)

→ You become a good citizen because
you socialized at school. (cause)
 Do you think children should be supervised outside
lessons?
(1) Donner son opinion
