• C’est fermé = It’s closed
(Fermer = to close)
• C’est ouvert = It’s open
• ‘ouvert’, ‘fermé’ are used as adjectives so
they can take on ‘e’ and ‘s’
• Quelle heure est-il? – What time is it?
• You can also use the question “Il est quelle
heure” to ask for the time.
• Answer the question with “Il est ….”
Ex. Il est deux heures du matin.

This is a question that is asked negatively.
• Si – Yes (used in place of ‘Oui’ when replying
positively to a negative question)

→ Si, il est midi moins le quart
Yes, it is a quarter to 12.
→ Non, il n’est pas midi moins le quart
No, it isn’t a quarter to 12.
