PSII LESSON PLAN Teacher Candidate: Casey Cole Location: SEED 420L Date/Time: November 8th 2013 Class and Grade Level: Introductory French – Grade 9 Daily Lesson Topic: Describing and comparing les personnes Unit: Comment êtes-vous? Standards: National Foreign Language Standards – ACTFL – 5 C’s – Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions. Goals: Learning how to negate phrases. Incorporating use of adjectives in describing and comparing yourself to others. Daily Objectives: SWBAT describe and compare themselves as well as other peoples using new French grammar. SWBAT form negations or negated phrases in target language to show dislike. Instructional method: Problem/Project based Instruction Strategy, Modeling ELL modification/accommodation: Hands-on activity/packet allows all students to visualize and organize thoughts from chapter. Skit allows for multiple intelligences activated. Materials: Lecon workbook, Questionaire Time: 10 min Description of Each Phase of the Lesson Plan Brief Reflection/Explanation Introduction: 1. Skit on match.com I will pretend to sit at my computer to be filling out a personal profile online at Match.com for a âme soeur. I will say… “ Faire le profil d’amour à Match.com… Je cherche pour une âme soeur… je préfère une homme peut-être. Oui, c’est ca!” Les premières questions… Qu’est ce que vous aimez?... C’est facile, je sais ce question. Alors, J’aime l’exercice… les chiens… et manger au restaurants élégants. J’aime la cinéma aussi!“ “Mais, Qu’est ce que je n’aime pas…? Ah, les chats, je n’aime pas les chats… et le brocoli, no merci…” Suivant… Comment êtes-vous? Ah this is new… êtes… être… Ah alors… Je suis intelligent, parce que j’étude a l’université, Je suis sociable, j’aime parler avec mes amies… et je suis sportive aussi, parce que j’aime courir chaque jour… C’est suffi..” … Mais ce que je cherche dans l’autre…?” Model a skit so they can figure out what they will be learning, and doing for the day… 2. CHERCHER pour l’âme soeur (on board) Have the question of the chapter… “Comment êtes-vous?” on the board along with skit background of l’âme soeur 3. Explain objectives for the day “Voulez-vous chercher pour ton âme soeur?” “After today, you will be able to create your own personal profile to find your very one true soulmate” While having a setting on the board to aide in figuring out the topic, as well as having the topic in French for visualization. Time: 10 min Time: 20 min Time: ____ Instruction: 4. Hand out packets Qu’est ce que c’est… cette frase? (Comment êtes-vous?) “Cette une verbe que nous ne connaissons pas…” 5. Go through Vocabulaire - page 28 Have students look over the page with a partner for no more than two minutes, then regroup and have each one read at least one passage and ask them to present what they think it means by the picture. Have a graphic organizer on board. Record their thoughts. Practice: 6. Partner activity over Mise en pratique… Have student’s pair up and go over exercise and see if they can figure out by looking at them, and classify in table. Go over as group. 7. Le verbe être As they are doing this partner activity, I will write the conjugaison of être on the board. Go over as a group 8. Go over negation of a verb… “What if you wanted to say.. ”I am not… or I do not like…?” 9. Formation des adjectifs… “In French, adjectives agree in number and gender!” “Alors, on regarde page 37… et puis 39” 10. Practique avec le forme personelle de soi… (Questionnaire d’amour/d’amitié) This will be the activity we start but maybe not finish in the day. Assessment: Turn in Questionaires d’amour for starting to process your profile for your prospects. Time: Handing out workbooks for rechercher le sujet! They are personal handbooks therefore they are organized for the essential basic grammatique. Partner activity allows for more perspectives and ideas to figure out more individually without necessarily giving direct instruction. I want them to hypothesize what may be and why. Turn in the questionnaires allows for the teacher to monitor performance as well as keep work in order and accountable. Preview what is to come as well as connecting the days lesson to the ending goal helps the student become more organized and ready to learn more onto previous knowledge. Closure/Wrap Up: Explain the unit presentation 5 min “Now this lesson and the developement of this grammar unit will prepare us for what I will be assigning as the unit project. I will be having you create a personal presentation about yourself as well as your family. I want you to cover the basic criteria, EN Bref, that we have gone over in class. Describing yourself, Comparing yourself to other (Which we will continue on in our next class, incorporating adjectives and continuing in using negated forms of sentences. This will be a class project presentation that we will start in a few short weeks.
