The  research  interest  of  our  group  is  to  elucidate  the  molecular  and 
cellular  mechanisms  which  regulate  the  anti-proliferative  effects  of 
calcium in colorectal cancer. One of the candidate molecules involved in 
this  process  is  the  CaSR,  a  possible  tumor  suppressor,  which  is 
significantly down-regulated during colorectal carcinogenesis. During my 
PhD  studies  I  plan  to  elucidate  whether  the  CaSR  mediates  the  tumor 
inhibitory properties of calcium in the colon. I expect that this conference 
would give me the possibility to learn more about the pleiotropic effects 
of calcium in the various fields  of physiology, molecular biology and cell 
signalling.  As  I  am  only  in  my  first  year  of  PhD  study,  I  believe  the 
conference  would  greatly  help  me  to  understand  better  the  complex 
research  in  the  multifaceted  field  of  calcium  signalling.  I  am  excited  to 
have the opportunity to attend this conference at such an early point in 
my career and to interact with leaders in the field. This meeting will be an 
excellent  platform  for  me  to  gain  new  insights, ideas  and  incentives  for 
my  future  research.  One  of  the  main  goals  of  the  ECS  is  to  promote 
scientific  excellence  in  young  researchers,  attending  the  meeting  will 
avail me to gain a broad scientific knowledge for my future study.
