SOLVEXIN® Bromhexine HCl Description: SOLVEXIN® (Bromhexine HCl) is a synthetic derivative of the herbal ingredient vasicine. Bromhexine has been shown to increase the proportion of serous bronchial secretion. Bromhexine enhances mucus transport by reducing mucus viscosity and by activating the ciliated epithelium (mucociliary clearance). Bromhexine shows a secretolytic and secretomotor effect in the bronchial tract area, which facilitates expectoration and eases cough. Properties: Bromhexine is well absorbed from the GI tract, 75 - 80% experience the first pass effect through liver. The administration after food increases its bioavailability. It is also highly protein bound but it accumulates more in the lung than in plasma. Most of Bromhexine is eliminated via renal route. Indications: SOLVEXIN® is indicated as secretolytic therapy in acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases associated with abnormal mucus secretion and impaired mucus transport. Dosage and administration: Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml 3 times daily. Children under 12 years (Dose to be given 3 times daily): * 6 - 12 years: 5 ml * 2 - 6 years: 2.5 ml * Children less than 2 years of age: 1.25 ml. At start of treatment with SOLVEXIN®, it may be necessary to increase the total daily dose up to 48 mg in adults. SOLVEXIN® is sugar-free syrup and it is, therefore, suitable for diabetics and small children. Contraindications: Bromhexine should not be used in patients known to be hypersensitive to it or to other components of the formulation. Dosage et administration: Les adultes et les enfants plus de 12 ans: 10 ml 3 fois quotidiennement. Les enfants sous 12 ans (la Dose être donnée 3 fois quotidien): * 6 - 12 ans: 5 ml. * 2 - 6 ans: 2,5 ml. * les Enfants moins que 2 ans majeurs: 1,25 ml. Au début de traitement avec SOLVEXIN®, ce peut être nécessaire d’augmenter le total la dose quotidienne jusqu’à 48 mg dans les adultes. SOLVEXIN® est le sirop de sucre-libère et c’est, donc, convenable pour les diabétiques et les petits enfants. Patients being treated with Bromhexine should be warned to expect an increase in the flow of secretions. Use during pregnancy and lactation: Studies on animals do not suggest that Bromhexine has any teratogenic potential in humans during pregnancy. Nevertheless, the usual precautions regarding the use of drugs during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, should be observed. Lactation: Bromhexine is expected to enter breast milk and thus should be avoided during lactation. Drug interactions: The administration of Bromhexine along with antibiotics (Amoxycillin, Cefuroxim, Erythromycin, Doxycycline) leads to higher antibiotic concentration in the lung tissue. No clinically unfavorable interactions with other medications have been reported. Side effects: Bromhexine is generally well tolerated. Mild gastrointestinal side effects may have been reported. Allergic reactions, including skin rashes, bronchospasm, angio-oedema, and anaphylaxia have also been reported very rarely. Overdosage: Overdosage symptoms have not been reported in man. If overdosage occurs, symptomatic treatment should be provided. Storage conditions: Store up to 30º C. Presentation: SOLVEXIN® Syrup: Each teaspoonful (5 ml) contains 4 mg Bromhexine Hydrochloride filled in bottles of 100 ml. Précautions: La prudence devrait être observée pendant l’usage dans les malades avec l’ulcération gastrique. Les interactions non d’un point de vue clinique défavorables avec les autres médicaments ont été rapportées. Effets indésirables: Bromhexine bien est généralement toléré. Les réactions allergiques, y compris les éruptions de peau, bronchospasm, l’angio-oedème, et anaphylaxia a été aussi rapporté très rarement. Surdosage: Les symptômes d’Overdosage n’ont pas été rapportés dans l’homme. Si overdosage arrive, le traitement symptomatique devrait être fourni. Conditions de conservation: Conserver jusqu’à 30ºC.
