The basics



In French, we have three main groups of verbs.
In the three groups, we have regular verbs and
irregular verbs
Regular verbs usually have the same endings
that are used for the verbs in their group.
Irregular verbs don’t have endings that are the
same; they are the rebels because they have
their own rules.
Conjugating regular –ER verbs
To conjugate a regular –ER verb, these are the
steps:
 Identify the –ER ending in the verb: aimer
 Drop the ending off. This leaves you with a
root, which does not change: aim
 Finally, add the endings to the verb.
Endings for –ER verbs
Regular -ER verbs use the following endings
 JE –e
 TU –es
 IL/ELLE/ON –e
 NOUS –ons
 VOUS –ez
 ILS/ELLES –ent
AIMER – to like
