LES VERBES –RE LE VERBE PRENDRE CHAPITRE 5 LES VERBES ER (Une révision) • You have already learned one regular verb type, which is er verbs in chapter 1. • To review: for er verbs you take off the er and add the correct endings (e, es, e, ons, ez, ent) • Parler = to speak • Je parle Nous parlons • Tu parles Vous parlez • Il parle Ils parlent • Elle parle Elles parlent LES VERBES RE • There is a second type of regular verb, RE verbs. For these verbs you drop the re and add the correct endings. (s, s, -, ons, ez, ent) Vendre- to sell Je vends Nous vendons Tu vends Vous vendez Il vend Ils vendent Elle vend Elles vendent On vend Le Verbe Prendre • Prendre is also an –re verb, which has the same endings as all other re verbs. However, the stem is irregular and you must memorize it. • Prendre- to take or to have food food/drink • Je prends Nous prenons • Tu prends Vous prenez • Il prend Ils prennent • Elle prend Elles prennent • On prend Les Verbes RE • Vendre- to sell • Perdre- to lose • Entendre- to hear • Attendre- to wait • Répondre- to answer/ respond • Rendre- to return • Rendre visite à- to visit someone Pratiquons! 1. Ils (vendre) L’impératif • To give a command in French, you need the imperative. There are only three forms of the imperative (tu, vous and nous) The difference between the imperative and a regular sentence is that the subject is not written down (it is simply understood). Vous commands • If you are addressing people older than you, in formal situations and with more than one person. • Prenez un sandwich. (Have a sandwich) • Jouez au football (Play soccer) Tu commands • If you are addressing people your own age or family members and with only one person. • Prends une limonade.
