Pr Ariel COHEN Président du Comité Scientifique des JESFC Pr Martine GILARD Vice-Présidente de la Société Française de Cardiologie 4 Editorial | Editorial EDITORIAL | EDITORIAL 27th E UROPEAN D AYS OF THE FRENCH SOCIETY OF CARDIOLOGY T his year, the major annual event in French cardiology will take place from 11th to 14th January 2017. The 27 th meeting of the European Days of the French Society of Cardiology (EDFSC) coincides with the 80 th anniversary of the founding of the French Society of Cardiology. As in previous meetings, a complete and comprehensive update will be provided on the progress of diagnostic and therapeutic innovations in our specialty. This will take place through reviews of major clinical trial results and international guidelines – primarily European ones – to optimize the management of major cardiovascular pathologies that cardiologists face each day. The Organizing Committee wanted, even more than in previous years, to open the congress beyond Europe and beyond cardiology. The 2017 meeting will be particularly enriched by joint sessions, in close and equal partnership with allied national societies – from France, Europe, Canada, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa – with the ambition and aim to shed light on everything related to the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases in specific clinical situations. Sessions included in this year’s program will provide the opportunity to spend time with national and international experts. For the European conference, Thomas Lüscher will present a lecture on myocardial infarction through the years; Zahi Fayad, for the American conference, will shed light on recent advances in non-invasive imaging of atherosclerosis. This year, for the first time, Jeff Healey will be the lecturer for the Canadian conference, providing talks on the management of heart failure, from the defibrillator to resynchronization. Finally, Jean-Baptiste Anzouan will honor us with friendship and experience, to give the first African conference of our European Days, dealing with heart failure in Africa. In addition, the 2017 Organizing and Scientific committees wished to highlight the creation of the Salem Kacet conference, in memory of our friend and colleague who worked so hard to disseminate information on rhythmology and to improve our understanding of this specialty. Finally, a surprise awaits the participants, which promises to be a truly “exceptional” meeting. The Organizing and Scientific committees of the EDFSC, which reflect the diversity of the French Society of Cardiology (Working Groups, Subsidiaries, Colleges), have spent considerable time improving the congress, and we hope that you will enjoy these changes in the 2017 meeting. Particular care has been taken on the content of the different sessions, the thematic sessions and the workshops. The committees have also considered everything about the partnership with the pharmaceutical and the intra-cardiac device industries, which will take place around symposia, lunch debates, and the "training center". These meetings provide opportunities to exchange and share experiences and knowledge in a friendly environment. This year, a smartphone application has been introduced, with the aim of facilitating scientific exchange. Attendees will be able to send questions directly to the moderators during sessions, which will be forwarded to the speakers. As well as in specific sessions, attendees will be able to participate in quizzes, with the provision of answers to questions raised at the end of the session. The smartphone application will also give access to the detailed program as well as different events during our European Days. It will be available following the finalization of the preliminary program, presented at the end of August at the European Society of Cardiology congress. This EDSFC program will be updated regularly, based on information and changes inherent to any program for a scientific congress of this size, which gathers nearly 8000 participants each year at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. Prof. Jean-Yves LE HEUZEY President of the French Society of Cardiology Editorial | Editorial Prof. J.-Y. LE HEUZEY Prof. A. COHEN Prof. M. GILARD Among the many changes that will be evident from reading the program (available in both electronic and paper format), we wanted to repeat the course dedicated to young cardiologists, established in close collaboration with the College of Cardiologists in Training. The course proved a great success last year. Furthermore, after listening to the feedback provided by participants, many improvements have been made in order to deal with the various topics of cardiovascular pathology, with validation of the course for our young collaborators and students, and hospital interns enrolled in cardiovascular disease DES. Among the various innovations, joint sessions have been created in close collaboration with the French Society of Radiology, at the initiative of Professor Martine Gilard and Professor Louis Boyer. A course will be held on Wednesday, regardless of the traditional joint session between the French Society of Radiology and the French Society of Cardiology. Is it necessary to specify the importance of this interface between our two specialties, through cardiovascular imaging, an essential tool for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures? The Practical Studio, conceived and organized by Professor Yves Juillière and Doctor Serge Kownator, should, around the creation of a new event, decline various current topics in daily practice, in an original format. A clinical scenario will be presented by one of our young colleagues and commented on by an expert, who will provide answers based on the published literature, evidence-based guidelines and especially on practical experience. This new initiative will without doubt be a great success, not only among cardiologists and emergency doctors, but also among our general practitioner colleagues, whom we hope will be a growing and active presence at the congress this year. The guiding theme of the European Days of the French Society of Cardiology this year is “ambulatory cardiology”. The 2017 Organizing and Scientific committees believe that it is time to develop this topical theme in our specialty, from diagnosis to patient treatment, through the different interventional perspectives, which can be also offered in an outpatient environment due to more advanced techniques and improved results. We are aiming for a very successful EDFSC 2017 meeting, even more so than the excellent 2016 meeting – this is the mission of the Organizing and Scientific committees. This year, perhaps even more than in previous years, the involvement of the Scientific and Organizing committees, the considerable contribution of the team at the Maison du Cœur, and the investment of Europa Organisation Agency, have teamed to build an exciting and comprehensive program to meet the ambitions of the 27th EDFSC. We aim to present the expected and much appreciated event, as every year, punctuating the cardiologists’ daily activity. We wish you all an excellent congress!
