Lorsque le masque, déplaçable par une vis micrométrique, coïncide exactement avec le spectre stellaire, le flux de la lumière transmise est alors à son minimum et la posiCondumasquedonnelavitessedel’étoileparrapportàcelled’Arcturusavecuneprécisionvoisinede1km/ s. En 1977 une équipe franco-suisse construit sur le même principe l’instrument CORAVEL et l’installe sur le télescopesuissede1-mdel’OHP.
