QUESTION 1: COMPULSORY CASE STUDY (40 Marks)
Case Study: Multimodal Transport Organisation in Cameroon
Cameroon Integrated Logistics (CIL) is a logistics company coordinating the movement of
imported goods from the Port of Douala to inland cities such as Yaoundé, Ngaoundéré, and
N’Djamena (Chad). The company uses multiple transport modes including road transport, rail
services operated along the Douala–Ngaoundéré corridor, and temporary storage platforms.
Despite increasing demand, CIL faces several operational challenges:
Poor coordination between road and rail transport schedules
Underutilisation of transport equipment (trucks and handling machinery)
Frequent vehicle downtime due to inadequate maintenance planning
High operating costs linked to inefficient resource allocation
Congestion at loading and unloading points
Lack of integrated planning between logistics partners
Management aims to reorganise transport modes and optimise the use of material resources.
