POLICY STATEMENT DELEGATION: People’s Republic of China ASSEMBLY: Population Movement Council (PMC) QUESTION OF: Regional responsibility for population movement resulting from conflict. The situation in Tigray STATEMENT : Being one of China’s closest allies in Africa, Ethiopia has always maintained strong diplomatic with China. We believe that the situation in Tigray is very unfortunate. Thousands of Tigrayan refugees have sought places to stay due to this devasting conflict between the federal government of Ethiopia and the TPLF. China deeply sympathizes with the people of Ethiopia, notably the people of Tigray, who have been displaced because of this conflict. China is willing to provide humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia, by sending food and vaccines, China hopes that it can help the humanitarian situation in the northern part of Ethiopia, Tigray. Moreover, promoting regional peace, stability and development will be very important in finding common ground in this conflict. As the war continues to unfold, China supports the idea of reconciliation between the federal government of Ethiopia and the TPLF through dialogue and negotiation and hopes that this conflict would soon end. China sees a possible future where Ethiopia will enjoy peace and stability and achieve development and prosperity. Furthermore, China encourages countries to provide any kind of humanitarian assistance to Tigray.
