ABSTRACT
This thesis is an examination of nasal vowels in French. It investigates the evolution of these
vowels in standard French and in different regions of France. It also addresses the types of problems
native speakers of English tend to have with the pronunciation of these vowels because of the interference
of their native language and includes some practical tools to help teachers improve their students’
acquisition of these vowels.
