derivatives, atazanavir, clarithromycine, cisapride , even if it is a medicine obtained without
prescription.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Pregnancy: This medicine must be used during pregnancy only on the doctor’s advices.
If you discover you are pregnant during treatment, consult your doctor who will judge the need to
continue the treatment.
Breastfeeding:The administration of this medicine should be avoided during breastfeeding.
POSOLOGY AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION
Posology:
Adults and children from 12 years old
-Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis :
40 mg once par day during 4 weeks. An additional 4 weeks is recommended in patients whom
esophagus has not healed or whom symptoms persist.
-Prevention of some esophagitis relapses:
20 g once daily.
-Symptomatic treatment of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn and acid reflux):
20 mg once daily.
If your symptoms persist after 4 weeks, consult your doctor.
Adults
-Treatment of duodenal ulcer caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pilori:
The initial dose is 20 mg, associated with two antibiotics (Amoxicillin 1 g and Clarithromycin 500
mg) twice daily during 7 days.
-Prevention or/and Treatment of peptic ulcers caused by taking non steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs (NSAIs):
The usual dose is 20 mg once a day. For the treatment, the duration is 4 – 8 weeks.
-Treatment of Zollinger –Ellison syndrome:
The recommended initial posology is 40 mg twice daily. The dosage must be individually adjusted
and the treatment must be followed as long as clinically necessary.
For doses more than 80 mg (4 capsules) per jour, the daily dose must be divided in two
administrations.
- Continuation of the treatment after prevention by intravenous way of the hemorrhagic
recurrence of peptic ulcer:
40 mg once a day during 4 weeks.
Mode of administration:
Oral route. Capsules can be taken during meals or with fasting.
For patients who cannot swallow the capsules, these must be opened and mixed with food slighty
acidic (pH <5), such as yoghurt, orange juice, apples compote …
If you take more IPPSIUM® 20 mg capsule than you should:
Consult immediately your doctor or your pharmacist.
If you forget to take IPPSIUM® 20 mg capsule:
Take it as soon as you remember.However, if it is almost time for your next dose, do not take the
missed dose, but continue your treatment normally.
In all cases, strictly follow your doctor’s advice.
SIDE EFFECTS
Frequent: headache, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pains, flatulence.
Not very often: dizziness, peripheral edema, paresthesia, sleepiness, insomnia, increased liver
enzymes, skin reactions (dermatitis, rash, pruritus, urticaria), discomfort (for IPPSIUM® 40 mg.)
Rare : reversible mental confusion, agitation, aggressiveness, depression and hallucinations,
particularly in patients with coexisting severe pathology, gynecomastia, dry mouth, stomatitis, gastro-
intestinal candidiasis, decreased blood cell counts, encephalopathy in patients with severe pre-
