The Feasibility of Delivering a
Supported Depression Self-care
Intervention in Primary Care for
Older Adults with Comorbid Chronic
Physical Illness (Project DIRECT-sc)
This poster is based on the research project DIRECT-sc. This study
aims to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a supported self-care
intervention for depression in this population. Results show that while
there are obstacles to screening for depression in family practice, we
were able to recruit chronically ill depressed patients into a self-care
intervention.

Self-care interventions for depression
among adults with chronic conditions:
Health professionals’ views and family
members’ involvement
This poster will present findings from focus groups exploring health
professional’s views of self-care for depression (n=21) as well as
findings from surveys and qualitative interviews with family members
(n=4) examining their concerns and their involvement in reinforcing
self-care strategies. The results reveal important considerations when
developing and evaluating self-care interventions for adults with
depression and comorbid chronic conditions.

A systematic review of adherence to
supported self-care interventions for
symptoms of depression or anxiety
Evidence exists for the effectiveness of supported self-care interventions
to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety; these interventions have
been proposed as part of stepped care models for the care of depression
and certain anxiety disorders. These interventions are self-administered
by the patient who is responsible to both read and implement the
recommended techniques, and are also supported by a guide. This
poster will present the results of a systematic review of original studies
of supported self-care.
