MESSAGE FROM
THE PRESIDENT AND
THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
2
For the first time in its history,
the Quebec Division of the
Canadian Cancer Society met,
and even surpassed, the magic
figure of $10,000,000 in revenue
from various sources. This suc-
cess is due without a doubt to
the army of volunteers whom the
Society relies on in its battle
against cancer. What better way
to highlight the International
Year of Volunteers!
Throughout its 14 regions and
200 units across Quebec, some
20,000 committed volunteers
work tirelessly to ensure the suc-
cess of the Society’s activities. In
addition to fundraising which, in
and of itself, mobilizes thou-
sands of volunteers each year
throughout the province, there
are hundreds more who are
devoted to raising awareness
about cancer prevention and
early detection. Others, who
draw on their personal experi-
ence and have received valuable
training, generously give of their
time to provide emotional sup-
port to people recently affected
by the disease. Still others are
ready to lobby our governments
to adopt new legislation
designed to reduce the risks of
certain cancers or to improve the
quality of care to those affected
by the disease. Examples
abound of people who have
made exceptional contributions
to the cause, sometimes at great
personal sacrifice.
Indeed, the Society is privileged
to be able to draw strength and
vitality from its invaluable team
of volunteers. In the context of
this well-deserved year devoted
to honouring volunteers, we
would like to express our sincere
thanks and gratitude to each
and every Society volunteer.
