présentateur de télévision, le côté féminin dans la politique environnementale au Canada, et le rôle-clé
du présentateur météo dans les média.
Three different experiences of the COP 21 will be presented: a more technical television presenter’s
perspective, the female side of the environment policy-making in Canada, and the media facet where
weather broadcasters can be considered as key-figures.

Biographie/Biography
Abdalah Mokssit est l'actuel directeur du Service météorologique national
du Maroc et le troisième vice-président de l'Organisation météorologique
mondiale. Il est ancien vice-président du Groupe de travail I du GIEC. Il
sera le Secrétaire du GIEC à compter du 1er Juillet 2016. Il a été actif dans
la coopération internationale avec les centres régionaux et internationaux
tels que le Centre européen pour les prévisions météorologiques à
moyen terme et le Consortium Aladin, un groupement européen de pays
travaillant sur la prévision numérique du temps. Il a contribué au prix
Nobel décerné au GIEC et à Al Gore. Au sein du Service météorologique
Maroc, il s’est focalisé sur l'amélioration de la prévision, de la prévision
immédiate à la prévision à long terme, améliorant l'alerte et la gestion
de crises pour les événements extrêmes, sur la génération de modèles
régionaux de scénarios du changement climatique, sur les études d'impact
et les services aux utilisateurs finaux. Il a obtenu son diplôme d’ingénieur
à l'Ecole Nationale de la Météorologie de Toulouse (France), ainsi qu'un
diplôme en Télématique et Systèmes d'Information à Supélec, un institut
français d’ingénierie. Il a également un diplôme de gestion du Ministère
marocain des Travaux publics.
Abdalah Mokssit is the current Director of the National Meteorological
Service of Morocco and the Third Vice-President of the World Meteorological
Organization. He is a former Vice-Chair of IPCC Working Group I. He will be
the Secretary of the IPCC starting from 1 July 2016.He has been active in
international cooperation with regional and international centres such as
the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and the Aladin
Consortium, a European group of countries working on numerical weather
prediction. He is a contributor to the Nobel Prize awarded to the IPCC
and Al Gore. At the Meteorological Service of Morocco, he has focused
on upgrading forecasting, from nowcasting to long-range forecasting, on
improving warning and crisis management for extreme events, and on
generating regional models of climate change scenarios, climate change
sector impact studies and services for end users. He received a civil
engineering degree from the National School of Meteorology of Toulouse,
France, as well as a degree in telematics and information systems from
Supélec, a French engineering institute. He also has a management
diploma from the Ministry of Public Works, Morocco.

Biographie/Biography
Jill Peeters a développé une passion pour le climat et ses impacts sur la vie
des gens. Depuis 2000, elle présente le bulletin météorologique pour VTM
(une chaîne de télévision commerciale). Quelques années plus tard, elle
devient météorologiste en chef pour sa chaîne et pour le journal Het Laatste
Nieuws.Jill reçoit le EMS Award pour le meilleur «bulletin météorologique»
en 2008 et aussi le « Award pour la communication sur le changement
climatique » en 2009. Elle a participé comme membre de la délégation
française à la COP 15 de Copenhague et à la COP 21 de Paris. Elle aime
promouvoir la science auprès des jeunes et son dernier projet d’émission
pour les enfants concernant le changement climatique a gagné le prix de la
presse pour le développement durable.
Jill Peeters grew up with a passion for weather and its impact on people’s
everyday lives. Since 2000 she presents the weather at VTM (Flemish
commercial television channel). A few years later she became Chief
Meteorologist at her channel and for the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
Jill got the EMS award of best ‘TV weather forecast’ in 2008 and also the
‘Climate Change Communication Award’ in 2009. She also participated as
a member of the Belgian delegation at the COP 15 in Copenhagen and the
COP 21 in Paris. She loves to promote science among young people and her
last TV project for children about the changing climate won a press prize for
sustainable development.
Résumé/Abstract
J’ai commencé à me focaliser sur le changement climatique il y a dix ans et
l’"échec" de la COP à Copenhague était nécessaire pour réaliser l’importance
d’une politique climatique. Juste après les attentats de Paris, la COP 21
s'annonçait comme un sommet de deux semaines avec des décisionnaires
"ennuyeux". Ce genre d'actualité n’était pas vraiment ce que ma chaîne
attendait. Ils n’ont (presque) rien investi pour couvrir la COP 21. Mais, en faisant
de cette COP 21 mon histoire personnelle, a permis d’y attirer l’attention
de toute sorte de média. Les présentateurs météo jouent un rôle essentiel
pour sensibiliser à l’urgence d’une politique en matière de changements
climatiques.
Ten years ago I started focusing on climate change, and the ‘failure’ of the
COP in Copenhagen was needed to realize how important climate policy
was. COP 21 was a two-week climate summit with ‘boring’ policy makers,
just after the Paris attacks. This kind of policy news wasn’t really what my
channel was waiting for. They didn’t invest in (almost) anything to report
from this COP 21. But making this COP 21 my personal story, helped in
putting this into all sorts of media. Weather broadcasters are key in making
the urgency of climate change policy visible.
