Chers paroissiennes et paroissiens,
Nous célébrons aujourd’hui une fête à laquelle de nombreux catholiques
n’ont jamais assistée. Celle-ci est la Présentation de Jésus au temple. Bien que
ce fût une célébration juive de reconnaissance pour le don d’un nouvel enfant,
nous pourrions traduire cela dans le jargon catholique, par le baptême du
nourrisson. Évidemment, cela n’était pas un baptême, mais pour les juifs c’était
quelque chose d’équivalent. La tradition catholique célèbre la Fête de la
Présentation en organisant une procession avec cierges allumés. Nous en
avons organisée une. Veuillez-vous joindre à nous. Le fait de marcher avec un
cierge allumé symbolise que Jésus, Celui qui est offert à Dieu, est en effet la
Lumière qui vient dans le monde. Jésus est Lumière. Sa personne lumineuse
dissipe les ténèbres.
Comme l’évangile l’affirme, les parents en offrant leur enfant au Seigneur
doivent également faire une « donation ». Au lieu de donner de l’argent, comme
on le ferait aujourd’hui, ils ont offert une pièce de leurs biens, notamment un
animal. Si la famille était riche, elle pouvait offrir un mouton, et si elle était très
riche, elle offrait une vache ou un taureau. Par contre, si elle avait de la difficulté
à joindre les deux bouts, elle aurait pu offrir un petit oiseau. C’est ce que firent
Joseph et Marie. Ils ont offert une tourterelle des bois. Ceci nous apprend
beaucoup sur les origines modestes du milieu familial de Jésus.
Deux personnes rencontrent la Sainte Famille : Siméon, un saint homme
qui travaillait au temple, et Anna, une sainte femme fortement avancée en âge
qui vivait pratiquement au temple. Les deux, étant des personnes pieuses, ont
reconnu la présence de Dieu en Jésus. Les deux ont rendu grâce, car les
promesses au peuple de Dieu longtemps attendues s’accomplissaient
maintenant. Siméon a bien compris que le parcours de Jésus, bien que rempli
de bons et d’heureux moments, serait également rempli de troubles, d’épreuves
et de souffrances. Telle est la vie humaine!
Ces deux personnes étant des croyantes, ne pouvaient que rapporter
aux gens qu’ils rencontraient l’actualisation mystérieuse du plan du Seigneur.
Anna, comme toute grand-mère fière, parlait à tous au sujet du bébé Jésus! Les
grands-mères et les grands-pères sont de grands missionnaires, porteurs de
bonnes nouvelles!
L’invitation qui nous est faite à tous est de permettre à la Lumière du
Christ de briller au sein de nos maisons, de nos vies et dans tout ce que nous
accomplissons. Il est la Lumière et nous sommes Ses miroirs. À tous, je
souhaite une semaine sainte et bénite….Affection, père Francis.

ÉTUDE BIBLIQUE
L’étude Biblique reprend maintenant tous les samedis de 10h à 12h00. Les

BIBLE STUDY IXOYE.
The Bible Study resumes on Saturday from 10h to noon at MRP. We will be
studying the Psalms
Dear parishioners,
We celebrate today something which many Catholics have never seen, that
is, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. Though it was a Jewish celebration
of gratitude for the gift of a new child, we might equate it, in Catholic terms, with
the Baptism of the baby. Obviously, it was not a baptism, but for Jews, it was
something equivalent. Catholic tradition accompanies the Feast of the
Presentation with a candle light procession. We will do this. Please join us.
Walking with the lit candle symbolizes that Jesus, the one being offered to God,
is in fact the Light coming into the world. Jesus is that Light. His person illumines
the darkness.
As the gospel states, the parents in offering their child to the Lord, also had to
make a ‘’donation’’. Rather than giving money, as we would today, they offered a
piece of their property, namely an animal. If the family was rich, they could offer a
sheep, and if very wealthy, a cow or a bull. On the other hand, if they were just
barely scraping by, they would offer a small bird. Such was what Joseph and
Mary did. They offered a turtle dove. This tells us a lot about the humble
circumstances of Jesus’ home life.
Two individuals meet the Holy Family: Simeon, a saintly man who served in
the temple, and Anna, an elderly holy woman, who practically lived in the temple.
Both, being prayerful people, recognized the presence of God in Jesus. Both
gave thanks that the long awaited promises to the people of God were now being
fulfilled. Simeon rightly recognizes that the journey of Jesus, though full of
beautiful and happy moment, would also be one full of troubles, trials and
suffering. Such is human life!
Both of these individuals, being people of faith, could not help but tell the
people whom they met, about this mysterious fulfillment of the Lord’s plan. Anna,
like a proud grandmother, told everybody about the babe Jesus! Grandmothers
and grandfathers are great missionaries of good news!
The invitation for us all, is to allow the Light of Christ to shine in our homes,
our lives, and in all that we do. He is light. We are His mirrors. Have a blessed

THE LAW 52, PERMITTING ASSISTED SUICIDE will be voted on fairly soon. Would any

The local soup kitchen/ food bank, On Rock, is doing some fundraising. It is a
walkathon taking place Feb. 22. This is a way for us to care for the poor of our

The door to door ministry will continue this year. Our first date will be February
1st at the rectory of Mary Queen of Peace. We will meet at 1:45 and go to 3
p.m.
THE CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE (CWL) will hold a night of Reflection on Tuesday
February 11th at 7.30pm in St David’s Church, mass will be celebrated by Father
Francis McKee, refreshments will follow.
All members are asked to bring non-perishable food items for families in need in
our community.
This meeting is open to all members of Jesus Light of the World Parish.
