UQAM’s Levesque-Beyrouti, Laval’s Soucy honoured

OTTAWA (CIS) – Soccer striker Isabelle Levesque-Beyrouti of the University of Quebec in Montreal
Citadins and basketball player Dominic Soucy of the Laval University Rouge et Or are the Canadian
Interuniversity Sport - VIA Rail female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 24, 2005.
Levesque-Beyrouti, a second-year sociology student from Greenfield Park, Que. was named player of the
game in back-to-back outings for the Citadins as she scored the winning tally against UQTR and the tying
goal in a 1-1 draw with the Montreal Carabins, ranked first in the country going into the contest.
Soccer players Laura Breen of Memorial, Fallon McIntyre of RMC, and Moira Hood of Victoria were
also nominated for the weekly honour.
Soucy, a fifth-year physiotherapy student from Lethbridge, Alta. was named MVP of UNB’s Eric Garland
Tournament as he averaged 26.7 points per contest, including 35 in the gold medal game against
defending AUS champion StFX, to lead the Rouge et Or to the title.
Swimmer Daniel Monid of UNB and hockey goaltender Blake Grenier of Alberta were the other
nominees on the men’s side.

Sophomore Isabelle Levesque-Beyrouti of Greenfield Park, Que. was named player of the game in backto-back outings this weekend as she led the Citadins to a 2-0 shutout of the UQTR Patriotes, and a 1-1
draw against the Montreal Carabins, ranked first in the nation going into the contest.
The 24-year-old striker scored the winning goal and assisted on the Citadins second tally against UQTR
on Friday night, and then notched the tying goal against Montreal on Sunday afternoon. LevesqueBeyrouti leads her team with five markers this season, and is the only Citadins player to score more than
once this fall as UQAM has been held to eight goals in 12 outings.
UQAM (3-8-1) rounds out the regular season this weekend against Sherbrooke (5-1-6), and the No. 3ranked and QSSF-leading McGill Martlets (10-1-1).

Senior Dominic Soucy, a native of Lethbridge, Alta. who moved to Quebec City when he was only a few
weeks old, was named MVP of UNB’s Eric Garland Tournament this weekend as he averaged 26.7 points
and 6.7 assists per game to lead the Rouge et Or to the gold medal.
The 6-foot-3, 198-pound guard had his best game when it counted the most as he tallied 35 points in a 9592 overtime win over the reigning Atlantic conference champion StFX X-Men in the tourney final. Prior
to the final, the 24-year-old had scored 23 points in a 80-67 win over UNB, and 22 in a 94-80 win over
Saint Mary’s. The 2004-05 QSSF second-team all-star was deadly all weekend both from three-point
range and the charity stripe, netting nine of 16 attempts from beyond the arc and 13 of 15 free throws.
Laval, which failed to qualify for the CIS championship for the first time in five years last season, opens
conference play against the McGill Redmen on Nov. 12.

OTTAWA (SIC) – La joueuse de soccer Isabelle Lévesque-Beyrouti, des Citadins de l’Université du
Québec à Montréal, et le basketteur Dominic Soucy, du Rouge et Or de l’Université Laval, sont les
récipiendaires des titres d’athlètes féminin et masculin de la semaine VIA Rail de Sport interuniversitaire
canadien pour la période se terminant le 24 octobre 2005.
Lévesque-Beyrouti, une étudiante de deuxième année en sociologie originaire de Greenfield Park, Qué., a
été nommée joueuse du match à deux reprises pour les Citadins alors qu’elle a inscrit le filet vainqueur
contre l’UQTR et le but égalisateur lors d’un verdict nul de 1-1 face aux Carabins de Montréal, classées
premières au pays au moment de l’affrontement.
Les joueuses de soccer Laura Breen, de Memorial, Fallon McIntyre, du Collège Militaire Royal, et Moira
Hood, de Victoria, étaient également en lice pour l’honneur hebdomadaire.
Soucy, un étudiant de cinquième année originaire de Lethbridge, Alb., a été choisi joueur par excellence
du Tournoi Eric Garland de UNB après avoir conservé une moyenne de 26.7 points par rencontre, dont 35
lors de la finale face aux X-Men de StFX, champions en titre de l’Atlantique, pour permettre au Rouge et
Or de remporter la compétition.
Le nageur Daniel Monid, de UNB, et le hockeyeur Blake Grenier, de l’Alberta, étaient les autres finalistes
du côté masculin.

La joueuse de deuxième saison Isabelle Lévesque-Beyrouti, de Greenfield Park, Qué., a été choisie
joueuse du match à deux reprises ce week-end alors qu’elle a mené les Citadins à un blanchissage de 2-0
au dépend des Patriotes de l’UQTR, puis à un verdict nul de 1-1 face aux Carabins de Montréal, classées
premières au pays au moment de l’affrontement.
L’attaquante de 24 ans a inscrit le filet vainqueur et a récolté une aide sur le deuxième but des Citadins
contre l’UQTR vendredi soir, puis a marqué le but égalisateur contre Montréal dimanche après-midi.
Lévesque-Beyrouti domine son équipe avec cinq buts cette saison et est d’ailleurs la seule membre des
Citadins à avoir trouvé le fond du filet à plus d’une reprise cet automne, l’UQAM ayant été limitée à huit
buts en 12 sorties.
Les Citadins (3-8-1) mettent un terme à leur saison régulière ce week-end avec des affrontements contre
le Vert & Or de Sherbrooke (5-1-6) et face aux Martlets de McGill (10-1-1), troisièmes au Top 10 de SIC
et meneuses au classement de la FQSÉ.

Le vétéran de cinquième saison Dominic Soucy, natif de Lethbridge, Alb., et déménagé à Québec alors
qu’il n’était âgé que de quelques semaines, a été choisi joueur par excellence du Tournoi Eric Garland de
UNB ce week-end alors qu’il a conservé une moyenne de 26.7 points et 6.7 assistances par sortie pour
permettre au Rouge et Or de remporter la compétition.
Le garde de 6’3’’ et 198 livres a connu son meilleur match en finale lors d’une victoire de 95-92 en
prolongation face aux X-Men de StFX, champions en titre de l’Atlantique, enregistrant pas moins de 35
points. L’athlète de 24 ans avait auparavant récolté 23 points lors d’un gain de 80-67 face à UNB, puis 22
lors d’une victoire de 94-80 au dépend de Saint Mary’s. Membre de la deuxième équipe d’étoiles de la
FQSÉ en 2004-2005, Soucy a excellé tout au long du tournoi tant de la ligne de trois points qu’à la ligne
des lancers francs, réussissant neuf de ses 16 tirs du centre-ville et 13 de ses 15 lancers francs.
Le Rouge et Or, qui a raté le championnant de SIC pour la première fois en cinq ans la saison dernière,
entreprendra le calendrier régulier le 12 novembre face aux Redmen de McGill.
