RESEARCH PROBLEM
Climate change effects :
drought, raising
temperature, scarcity of
rainfall and grass
Sedentary policy to control the
“marginalized community” and the meat
trade since the colonial period (Santior,
1994)
Conflicts for landscape
and resources (Magrin
et al., 2011) Infrastructures : forages,
corridors, great green wall
Marginalization on policy maker
:irrational mode of production (Ka,
2019) Semi-pastoralism: agriculture
in conjunction with livestock
farming (Inter-réseaux; 2017).
- Pastoral resilience through the combined lenses
of the Anthropocene and environmental (in)justice
- Limited research on how pastoralists’ ecological
knowledge; power dynamic; gender and ethnicity
shape climate resilience
❑Research question
How do transhumant pastoralists in Ranérou,
Linguère and Kaffrine develop resilience in the
face of combined climate and environmental
risks, and how do territorial governance, power
dynamics, and local knowledge shape their
adaptive strategies over time?
❑Aim
To understand, through an Anthropocene-
informed perspective, the relationship between
pastoralists and their environment and how
pastoralist local and indigenous knowledge
appear as a key to build climate resilience and
the sustainability of transhumant pastoralism
through social, political, environmental and
climatic threats.
