Tutorial - Adding Internal SD Memory to a TTV3
By Lunatixz
Many people have contacted me for information on how to upgrade the internal memory of a
TomTom V3 which comes with an internal memory of (512Mb UK/1Gb US). The
instructions below will help you replace this memory with an SD card.
I'd like to thank: poppap for his help, and TTUser for his excellent contributions to this forum.
WARNING! - Neither I, nor anyone in this forum can be held responsible for any damage to
your TomTom Unit. The following steps will void your warranty and without proper
soldering knowledge can damage your TomTom. Follow these instructions at your own risk..
What you'll need:
1- Soldering iron (anything under 25 Watt is fine)
2- Soldering Flux
3- Q-tips
4- Electrical tape
5- 18-22AWG wire, about 3ft worth
6- MicroSD card with full size SD adapter (any good quality brand will do)
7- A set of Jewelers screwdrivers.
8- Double-sided tape
Follow these steps carefully!
Step 1- Cut 9 wires (18-22AWG) about 3" a piece.
Remove the ends from all 9 wires, and dip them into the flux so that you can prep them for
soldering.
Step 2- Pre-solder the ends of all nine wires.
Step 3- Using a jeweler's screwdriver remove the four screws from the back of the TomTom
unit. Removing the back cover requires a little force because there are four clips (two on each
side) holding the cover on.
