Abstract
As small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) shift from low-cost, non-sustainable dig-
ital solutions to more eco-friendly technologies, employee adaptability plays a critical role.
This work aims to investigate and explores how cognitive flexibility - supported by the brain’s
ability to adapt (the concept of neuroplasticity) - can help employees optimize their perfor-
mance during these transitions. Cognitive flexibility enhances learning, problem-solving, and
creativity, making it easier for employees to adopt sustainable digital solutions.
By building on these skills, SMEs owners or managers can guide their teams through
smoother transitions and for potentiialy better long-term success in a future focused on
sustainable innovation.
