Plug valve manufacturers in Brazil
South American Valve are leading Plug valve manufacturers in Brazil. A plug valve is a valve
which controls the flow of liquids inside or outside a pipeline, usually by means of a
cylindrical, tapered plug. Fluid can flow through the through hole in the plug if the valve is
open. A quarter rotation of the plug will make it align with or misalign with the route of the
fluid, either allowing or preventing its flow.
The general operating principle of a plug valve is the rotation of the plug inside the valve
body to regulate fluid flow. Fluid flows readily through the plug when its hole is aligned with
the intake and outflow ports of the valve body. When turned 90 degrees, the hole becomes
perpendicular to the ports, thereby blocking the flow. Generally, these valves are easy to
operate and provide dependable, rapid flow control due to their quarter-turn mechanism.
An actuated position in this case will allow an actuator to automatically open and close the
valve, while otherwise, a lever or handwheel is used to open and close by hand.
Basically, the plug valve allows regulation of flow through a pipeline and quick shut-off with
reliability. When fully open, the design imposes the least resistance to flow, and when
closed, it gives a tight seal. The plug valve is preferably used for systems which frequently
and rapidly operate like water treatment, oil and gas extraction, chemical processing,
among other industrial applications. They can withstand the applications of fluid with high-
temperature and pressure and are corrosive and abrasive; hence, they are very useful in
on/off control.
