A/ Comprehension.
Read the text carefully and do the activities.
A poor fisherman lived near the sea with his wife in a small cottage. He went fishing every day. One day, a
great fish was stuck in his line. The fish asked him not to kill it. The fish said, “I am a magical fish that can realize
your wishes, so put me back into the water.” The fisherman said, “I will not kill a fish that can talk”. He let the fish
go and it swam down to the sea.
When he returned to his wife in the cottage, she asked why he did not come with any fish. He replied that
he got only a fish which told him that it could satisfy his wishes, so he set it free. His wife said, «Didn't you ask
for anything?» «No,» said the fisherman. The wife said that he should have asked for a big, fancy cottage. The
man went to the sea and called for the fish. The fish swam up and asked the fisherman, «What do you want?» The
fisherman told it that his wife wished for a cottage. The fish said, «Go home. She already has it.» His wife was
standing near a beautiful cottage when he returned.
The wife kept asking the fish for wishes. She wanted a palace and to become a queen. The fish realized all
her wishes. One day, the woman told her husband that she wanted to become a god! When the man told the fish
the wish of his wife, the fish said «Go home. She is sitting in her poor cottage again, and everything is taken from
her!»
