Hi Automatticians,
After learning more about your company and culture from your web page, YouTube channel and Matt’s page, I
would love to be considered for the Software Engineer (Code Wrangler) position. I am very interested in being part
of a global team that has an enormous impact on the way people use the internet and their lives in general. Also, I
am looking forward to working with very smart and talented people, not to mention I love the way you name your
teams like the Patronus Team -Harry Potter fan here-.
My first encounter with a CMS was during my third year of university in 2008. That summer I developed a web page
for my faculty fellows that allowed us to share content and files with the help of free resources -cc.co free domain
and 000webhost free web host. Now, the only thing left is a webarchive.org capture. That same year I founded
"Fandom Code", a developer community aiming to participate in the Google Code Jam. So we did, but we did not
make it beyond the first round due to our poor English skills and difficulty solving problems with C++. That is what
had to happen for me to realize that Python solutions run much smoother.
After that, I was recommended for a freelance job as a PHP developer to develop many sites and CMS modules.
This allowed me to migrate from my old Pentium III 750Mhz 256MB RAM with shared video to an AMD Athlon 64
x2 4800+ 2x1GB DDR2 RAM Geforce 8500 512MB. Yes, I was a hardware enthusiast who also learned about
Computer Maintenance and Assembly.
As you will see on my resume, in my first full time job at SUNAT I developed many systems and most of them were
unsolicited in order to make my teammates’ lives easier. I chose Python because the majority of challenges were
about large data crossing and statistics. From my CTO/Founder experience at Traemelo.pe I learned not everything
is about coding and just as your creed states "life is a marathon not a sprint". It took many late nights and books to
understand that.
Currently, my main role at SENATI is leading the development of the official mobile application for 80K+ users -
mostly students-. This allowed me to work closely with some of them to decide on the next features and priorities
of the product. I also developed other systems that help the IT department to work better and share knowledge
with other developers that no are in my close team.
I would love to be an Automattician too, so feel free to contact me for any questions.
Best wishes and happy coding,
Paulo Salas
