MS Teams – A Tutorial
Chatting in MS Teams
To start one-on-one or group chats, select New chat at the top of your MS
Team Window near the Search.
When selecting New chat enter the person’s name, compose your
message in the box at the bottom of the chat

Select Send . This starts the chat.
Including Others in a Chat or Conversation
To bring more people into the chat or conversation, just click the Add
people icon in the top right corner of Teams.
Type the names of the people you would like to chat with, select how much
of the chat history to include, and click Add.
Including Conversation History
To include the chat history when adding a participant, there must be a
minimum of 3 people in the conversation before the Chat history will be
available as an option.

Choose the best option to include the Chat history when adding another
participant.

Hover over the number of participants in the chat to show a list of
everyone’s name
Changing Your Chat to an Audio Call
Select Add Participant to enter name of others to attend Audio Call
Changing Your Chat to a Video Call
Select Add Participant to enter name of others to attend Video Call

Share a file in a one-on-one or group chat
Select Choose file beneath the box where you type a message.
This will upload a copy of your original file.
You can also upload a file by going to the Files tab of a chat and select Share.
Send an emoji
To insert an emoji in a message, select Emoji beneath the chat box.
Select the emoji you want from the emoji gallery or do a keyword search at the top of the
gallery to find something specific.
Select Send
Send a GIF
To send an animated GIF in a message, just select GIF beneath the chat box.
