1. Form
Gerunds are formed like the present participle by adding “ing” to the infinitive.
2. Use
A gerund is a verb used as a noun.
Example:
I like walking.
3. Common verbs followed by gerunds
Hate, avoid, finish, risk, mind, like, enjoy, keep (meaning continue)
Examples:
I hate getting up early.
She suggested going to a film.
Do you mind living in this area?
I enjoy lying in the sun.
He keeps trying to be funny.
4. Certain prepositions are followed by gerunds
On, of, at, in…
Examples:
He is keen on fishing.
She is fond of reading books.
