L’impératif Qu’est-ce que l’impératif? • The imperative does the same thing in French as it does in English. You use the imperative to give commands or suggestions. • Ex: Read this book! – Lisez ce livre! • Ex: Don’t read this book! – Ne lisez pas ce livre! L’impératif en français • L’impératif existe en trois formes en français: TU form VOUS form NOUS form •Use to give a command to one friend (tu) •Form by taking the Tu form of the verb and drop the « s » of -er verbs •Use to command more than one person or someone formally •Keep the vous form of the verb the same •Use to suggest something for a group you are included in. •Keep the nous form of the verb the same Tu-Form Parler Parle plus fort, s’il te plait Vous-Form Parler Parlez plus fort, s’il vous plait Nous-Form Parler Parlons plus fort !
