Résumé 1 :The Arthur trace formula is one of the most important tools in automorphic forms.
Some of its striking applications are towards the Langlands functoriality conjectures. Recent ideas
which fall under the term "beyond endoscopy" necessitate the use of a larger class of test functions
in the trace formula. I will try to explain what are the issues on the geometric and spectral sides.
