Lack of cost effective and easily available laboratory
equipment could be one reason.

The PHOENIX (Physics with Home-made Equipment and
Innovative Experiments) project, started by IUAC in 2005,
tries to address this issue, by designing cost-effective and
open science experiments.

First product was a device supporting several experiments, used
PC parallel port. Software in C language, under Linux and DOS

La première réalisation fut un boîtier pour plusieurs expériences,
branché au port parallèle du PC. Logiciel en C, sous Linux et
DOS. Coût : US$ 70

2006: A micro-controller based version was developed. Used
Serial port and later changed to USB.
Powered by 9V DC adapter. 6” x 5” x 1” size
Code written in Python programming language
Cost: US$ 40/-
En 2006 : on a développé une version à base de micro-
contrôleur, connectée au port série, puis au port USB.
Alimentation externe 9V, Code en Python, US$40.
