Promulguée lors de la dernière session du Concile Vatican (octobre 1965), la déclaration Nostra Aetate a transformé les relations entre l’Église catholique et les religions non-chrétiennes, particulièrement avec le judaïsme. Pour souligner le cinquantième anniversaire de ce document novateur, la Conférence du Jubilé de Nostra Aetate propose une série de trois événements publics. Le mardi 27 octobre, les Prof. Jean Duhaime (Université de Montréal) et Armand Abécassis (Université Michel-de-Montaigne, Bordeaux), présenteront la déclaration Nostra Aetate comme un point tournant et ils en décriront l’impact sur les relations de l’Église catholique avec le judaïsme. Cette conférence en français aura lieu de 19h30 à 21h30 à la Bibliothèque publique juive (5151 Ch. de la Côte-Ste-Catherine. Le jeudi 29 octobre, la Prof. Patricia Kirkpatrick (Université McGill) et le Rabbin Schachar Orenstein (Synagogue Spanish & Portugese) discuteront diverses initiatives chrétiennes et juives faisant écho à Nostra Aetate. Le dimanche 1er novembre, Mme Myriam Azogui-Halbwax, la Dre Adriana Bara, Mme Talylor Baruchel et le Prof. Bruno Demers débattront des défis d’avenir qui se posent aux relations entre chrétiens et juifs, principalement à partir de l’appel des Douze points de Berlin adoptés par le Conseil international des chrétiens et des juifs en 2009.
