1) Journal Keeping for Writing and Vocabulary Growth
You will keep a journal with a minimum of 1 entry of at least one paragraph in length
per day. The topic can be anything of your choosing. For example, you can write about your
opinions on a certain topic, describe your day, or just write a mini-story. Try to vary your
tenses. It is expected that you use a dictionary and look up new words to use each
time to broaden your vocabulary base (VERY important!!)

Spend 15 minutes per weekday viewing videos and completing listening activities at

From these listening and reading resources, write down the names of the videos you view /
articles you read and 5 words in French and English that you learned per session. You
should have a list of at least 25 words per week, that is, a minimum of 5 fifteen minute
sessions. Place each week's vocab on a page with a heading of the title and the date
completed.
Vary your viewing and reading to include the following themes that appear on the AP
French exam:

4) Email
Send me an email (via attachment, (en français, bien sûr) that reports what you have done
during the vacation (past tense with passé composé and imparfait) and what you will do
(future) or would like to do (new year resolutions- tense: conditionnal). Suivez les règles
pour écrire un courriel.
5) Useful AP Vocabulary
Make flashcards for the useful vocabulary words. Put the French word or phrase on 1 side
and the English definition on the other. Study these!! Be prepared to show me the flashcards
you created when school starts AND be ready for a quiz on them. Do this for all themes.

Concordance des temps :
1) S'il pleut, j'aurai besoin de mon parapluie. --> indicatif futur quand la proposition

proposition introduite par si est à l'indicatif imparfait
En 1) on envisage quelque chose qui peut se produire à l'avenir, en 2) c'est +
hypothétique
A noter :
JAMAIS de conditionnel dans la partie de la phrase qui commence par SI !!
Mais TOUJOURS après AU CAS OÙ...

le ferai (futur). => Je suis prêt à te rendre service (et je pense que tu vas me demander
de le faire).
MAIS

Emplois principaux :
En phrase simple (lorsqu'il n'est pas associé à une proposition introduite par
si) le futur sert à situer dans l'avenir, bien sûr, mais peut aussi exprimer un ordre.
a) L'an prochain j'irai à Paris.

si) le conditionnel sert à exprimer une hypothèse, un souhait, un désir, un rêve :
a) Le voleur pourrait bien être cet homme-là. (Je pense que c'est lui, mais je n'en suis
pas absolument certain.)
b) J'aimerais savoir jouer au tennis. (Mais j'en suis incapable)
c) Je voudrais devenir bilingue. (Et je vais essayer de le faire.)
d) Des enfants en train de jouer : "Toi, tu serais en danger, et moi je te sauverais."
S'emploie aussi pour exprimer avec plus de politesse une demande, un conseil ou
faire un reproche :
e) Pourriez-vous me passer la salière, s'il vous plaît ?
f) Tu devrais relire ton texte.
g) Tu pourrais faire attention!

7) Persuasive essay
Rent a French movie and watch it. (La Vie en Rose, Paris Je t’aime, Amelie, etc….) OR watch
your favorite DVD in the French version. Write me a 100 word essay convincing me to
watch it or why to avoid it. Use lots of new vocabulary (opinion vocab, convincing points,
etc…).
