Guide for calculating requirements for CO2systems
that combine local application and total flood hazards.
1.Calculate all total flood hazards discharge quantity
requirements. (lb)
2.Calculate all local application hazards flow rates.
(lb/min)
3.Create a table as shown below.
4.Enter total flood quantities into column number 2 (if
applicable).
5.Convert total flood requirements to increased flow
rates for combined systems.
a.HPCO2
i. Flow rate = Total flood Qty. / (1.4 X Local
app liquid discharge time in minutes)
b.LPCO2
i. Double total flood Qty. and insert as flow rate
for that hazard.
6.Enter converted flow rate in column number 3.
7.Enter local app flow rates in column number 3.
8.Add flow rates to get system total.
9.Convert total system flow rate to storage quantity.
a.HPCO2
i. Total storage Qty. = Total system flow rate X
1.4 X Local app liquid discharge time in
minutes.
b.LPCO2
i. Total storage Qty. = Total system flow rate X
1.3 X Local app liquid discharge time in
minutes. (Use for estimating. Calculation
Qty. will likely be less.)
