Order of Operations
1. Use your understanding of order of operations (BEDMAS) to solve the following problems.
a. 1 + (15 – 8)
= 1 + 7
= 8
b. 8 ÷ (5 + 3)
= 8 ÷ 8
= 1
c. 32 ÷ 4 + 8
= 8 + 8
= 16
d. (2 + 8) ÷ 2 x 5
= 10 ÷ 2 x 5
= 5 x 5
= 25
e. (8 x 2) – (12 – 1)
= 16 – (12 – 1)
= 16 – 11
= 5
f. (5 + 1 + 4) ÷ 10
= (6 + 4) ÷ 10
= 10 ÷ 10
= 1
g. 9 x 3 – 3 x 3
= 27 – 3 x 3
= 27 – 9
= 18
h. (6 – 4) x (4 x 2 + 2)
= (6 – 4) x (8 + 2)
= 2 x (8 + 2)
= 2 X 10
= 20
2. Fill in one pair of brackets to make the following equations true:
a. (3 + 6) x 3 = 27
b. 10 – (2 + 7) = 1
