seule souche bact~rienne r~sistante, une excellente effica-
cit~ clinique se manifestant rapidement chez des malades
dont la moiti~ avaient ~t~ trait~s sans succ~s par d'autres
antibiotiques, une bonne tolerance clinique et biologique.
Cette excellente efficacit~ jointe ~ la bonne tolerance
et ~ la simplicit~ de presoription font de I'ofloxacine un
antibiotique particuli~rement int~ressant en pathologie
infectieuse respiratoire et tout particuli~rement en seconde
intention apr~s ~chec d'une antibioth~rapie anterieure. •
SUMMARY
Efficacy of ofloxacin in the treatment of bronchial i~fections.
In an open study a total of 30 hospitalized patients suffering from bronchial infec-
tions were given ofloxacin, 200 mg b.i.d, orally for an average duration of 9 days.
Prior to therapy sputum was collected for bacteriological examination and relevant pathogens ( >>- 106
CFU/ml) were isolated in 29 patients. The predominant pathogens were Haemophilus and ~ hemolytic
Streptococcus.
Ofloxacin was proven to be effective in 80 % of the cases. Treatment had to be stopped
in only two cases because of the occurrence of gastro intestinal side effect in one case, rash in the other
one. The wide antibacterial spectrum, good diffusion into sputum and clinical efficacy of ofloxacin
suggest that ofloxacin is a promising drug in respiratory tract infections.
