THEORETICAL SUMMARY
7
I - Preparation for the stay in an industrial environment:
1) Introduction
The internship is an important period of transition between your training institution and the workplace. It
makes it possible to assess the knowledge acquired and the skills developed since the start of the study
program. This internship aims to:
- Consolidate the professional attitudes and behaviors developed during the training;
- Reinforce the skills acquired during the training;
- Become aware of the changes in perception that result from real involvement in the
workplace;
- Prepares to function in a workplace.
Stakeholders in the "work placement" operation
The various stakeholders aim for the success of your internship, here are the three essential partners:
The training establishment
The company
trainee
- Training Establishment
Your training institution takes over the planning, coordination, monitoring and final evaluation.
This role is usually entrusted to a training manager and has several aspects. First of all, this
person informs you of the internship conditions favored by the establishment and the
objectives sought.
The responsible person controls the production of several documents relating to the internship. She
communicates with the company as needed in order to establish good relations with employers. Finally,
she plans a visit to the company and must intervene in the event of a problem to be solved.
During his visit to the company, your manager first meets the person who supervises you
and notes his comments. This meeting aims to make recommendations in order to improve
the training given by the establishment. Then, you meet with your manager who assesses
your comments on the work context and your tasks.
During the second meeting, the trainer must take into consideration any comments concerning the
organization of the courses, the training, your behavior, your attitude and the activities carried out.
He is also responsible for collecting your comments relating to the work context and the tasks
performed. The objectives of this second visit are as follows:
- Establish a closer relationship between the establishment and the host company;
- Obtain from the person who supervises you an assessment of your integration into the workplace;
- Collect your comments;
- Check if the study program meets the requirements of the workplace;
- Make recommendations to an authority of the establishment
- Check job opportunities;
- Confirm the supervisor's desire to welcome other trainees.
Finally, when they return to the establishment, they must promote the exchange of opinions between the
trainees and finalize the evaluation of your participation in the activities of each phase of your integration
into the workplace.
8
- Home Business
According to a memorandum of understanding, the host company is called upon to collaborate with
the training establishment to plan your stay in the workplace. In other words, the person
supervising your internship must plan periods of observation and participation directly related to
the learning you wish to achieve. Clear instructions on the operation of the company and the
various tasks to be performed are then necessary prior to your stay. The person who supervises you
should also promote your relationship with the staff.
In the event of a particular problem or of abandonment, she must notify the responsible
trainer. Finally, this person makes himself available for a meeting with your manager. It then
provides information on your participation in the various tasks and on the quality of your
integration into the workplace. She may also mention the need for further training.
At the end of your stay in the workplace, the supervisor will meet with you to assess your
internship. You will first discuss the course of the experiment, then your attitude to the result of
this evaluation.
- Trainee
Before starting the different phases of your internship in the workplace, it is important that you
become aware of your role. The responsibilities incumbent upon you are important: the success
of your internship depends on it.
Thus, during the preparation of your internship in the workplace, you must first find out
about its organization, specify your expectations regarding your stay and learn about
certain aspects of its progress.
Subsequently, you are responsible for finding your host company and providing the trainer
responsible for your internship with the required documents.
During your work placement, keep in mind that you are representing your training
institution. The way you behave and participate in various activities directly affects its
reputation. Each day, you must also note, in your logbook, your observations on the work
context and on the tasks carried out in the company.
Back in the establishment, you must summarize your internship. On the one hand, the preparation
of a thank-you letter, on the other hand, the writing of a report.
In addition, you will have to participate in a discussion indicating the influence of your experience on the
choice of a future job.
2) Dynamic search for an internship
The dynamic search for an internship is no different from that of a job. The sources of
information and the strategies for identifying potential businesses are the same.
2.1- Sources of information:
The first strategy to identify potential businesses is to use the different sources of
information. Consulting the newspapers, visiting the employment centers (regional
branches of ANAPEC, Chambers of Commerce, etc.), going to agencies or private placement
booths, are the main steps to take.
Also use your personal contacts. Think about your family, friends, and professionals you
know. All these people can provide you with names of employers, name people who know
them or possibly put you in touch.
9
contact with them. Ask each person you speak to for the name of a person you can contact.
2.2- Inventory of potential businesses
The inventory list of potential employers (companies) must identify companies that better
correspond to their fields of professional and personal interest and whose requirements
correspond better to your job profile. To select from among the potential employers those who
best correspond to your internship profile, it is necessary, using the various sources of
information, to select potential companies.
2.3- Additional documents to the internship request
The following documents must accompany your internship request letter:
Internship request
Summary of the Curriculum Vitae
study program
Company tutor role sheet
Internship form
Others (see with your trainer)
- Summary of the study program
The person in charge of the company should be aware of your study program. Provide the
summary of the study program
- Curriculum vitae
You may have to present your CV. The manager in the company may ask for it to get a
better idea of your profile. It is therefore recommended to have some updated copies.
- Role of the tutor in a company
The internship is a training module given in a company. The supervision conditions promote better
learning and ensure the smooth running of the internship.
Your temporary integration into a real workplace creates a direct link between the
objectives of the study program and the skills sought by the workplace.
- Internship confirmation
When you are accepted as an intern in a company, it is necessary to ask the person
responsible for your internship to confirm this decision.
3) Organization of the internship
The internship represents a real period of transition between your training environment and that of
work. Its realization is carried out according to framing conditions and participation criteria.
10
For this internship to be a success, rigorous preparation requires close collaboration between you,
the training establishment and the host company.
Integration into the workplace will be easier if the trainees had the necessary information
for it to run smoothly.
Objectives of the internship
The internship is first of all a period during which you will gradually acquire the skills to
achieve your main objective, integration into the workplace. The internship has three
phases:
- The preparation of the internship
- The work placement
- Return to the training center
During the preparation phase:
- you will prepare your internship search file
- you will prepare for the interview
11
4) Preparation of the internship file
The following documents must be prepared for the search for an internship in a company:
- Selection of companies (list of potential companies)
- Internship request
- Summary of the study program
- Curriculum vitae
- Sheet of the tutor's role in a company
- Internship form
- Others (see with your trainer)
Steps :
Step 1: selection of companies
Fill out three potential business cards. Start with the business that is most likely to host you
and where you will enjoy yourself the most.
Submit a copy of your completed Potential Business Sheets to your responsible trainer. He will
add these documents to your file. Before allowing you to continue your research, he will make
sure that the same company will not be solicited by several interns.

Step 2: Prepare your documents (internship request, CV, etc.)
To prepare :
- Internship request
- Summary of the study program
- Curriculum vitae
- Sheet of the tutor's role in a company
- Internship form
12
Step 3: Prepare your interview for an internship
Before welcoming a person for an internship, the employer often asks to meet them. This is the
opportunity to promote yourself to the employer and to check if this internship environment really
interests you.
If you want to get the internship that's right for you, you must, like a job interview,
prepare thoroughly for your meeting.
Preparing for the interview
Preparing for your internship interview includes the following steps:
Find out about the company
Pay attention to the first impression Prepare
or review your personal documents
Familiarize yourself with frequently asked questions during an internship interview.
Company Information
Before interviewing an employer, you should gather as much information as possible
about the company. Do not hesitate to use all the sources of information available to
you. Contact the front desk or the public relations department at the company's head
office first. We will be happy to provide you with relevant information.
To help you prepare for your meeting with the employer, complete the following form:

First impression
The first minutes of a meeting with an employer are often decisive. It is indeed during the
initial contact that the person responsible for internships in the company gets an idea of
the intern.
You undoubtedly want to project the image of a serious, competent, honest, motivated, pleasant
person, etc. To get started, make your way to the appointment at the appointed time. In the
waiting room, adopt good posture and be kind to the person at the reception.
It is important to take care of your physical appearance, your behavior, your attitude and
your verbal expression: all these details reflect your personality. Finally, to make a good
impression, all the elements of your image must match.
Personal documents
It is useful to have certain documents in your possession, including:
Some copies of your CV
Documents relating to your competence, such as a certificate, transcript, attestation,
etc.
A list of your references and skills
Step 4: Follow-up after an interview
If necessary, on the date you were told, call the employer back to find out about their decision.
Keep it short and have a positive attitude. If your application was successful you have succeeded!
Thank him and confirm your presence for the internship. Prepare to be part of the team! On the
other hand, if you got a negative answer, don't be discouraged. Continue your research and do a
self-assessment of your meeting to improve your performance.
II - Carrying out activities in the workplace
1) Behavior to adopt during your internship:
To succeed in their internship, interns must first be aware of the following:
-Attitude and behaviors
Your host company, like all other workplaces, has its own administrative structure and
mode of operation. From your first day of internship, you will have to adapt to it.
First, choose appropriate clothing and adapt your language, attitude and behavior to
suit. The workplace is different from a classroom. Your host company may receive
customers on site, and as an intern, you are part of the staff that represents it.
Interpersonal relationships are also very important. Team spirit, politeness and respect
among colleagues and with superiors, discretion and good communication at all levels of
the organization are essential elements of a harmonious work environment.
If you want to integrate into the workplace, you need to be mindful of the employer's
property, respect the time allotted for breaks and meals, and manage your time effectively.
The employer who accepts you as an intern assumes that you have a sense of responsibility.
At work, being responsible means first showing up on time in the morning,
14
comply with the departure time, demonstrate attendance, demonstrate a certain autonomy,
respect company policies and be concerned with quality.
- Insurance cover
When you do an internship in a company, ask your establishment if you are protected in the
event of an accident and what to do under these conditions.
- Agreement between the people concerned
The internship ensures continuity of learning by observing a real work environment and by
participating in specific tasks. The responsibilities of the persons concerned are defined by the
establishment and duly accepted by these persons (trainee, trainer responsible for the training
course, company manager, establishment director). Carried out according to precise agreements
between the people concerned, the internship offers many advantages for the intern as well as
for the establishment and the employer.
To promote the achievement of your internship objectives, in addition to proof of insurance coverage,
your institution attaches a memorandum of understanding to the thank you letter. Previously signed
by the intern, the trainer responsible for the internship and the director of the establishment, this
memorandum of understanding first presents the people involved in carrying out the internship in
the workplace and then specifies the responsibilities of each of the three parties. involved: host
company, establishment and intern. Consult the memorandum of understanding presented next
2) Starting your internship:
Arrive at your internship site a few minutes before the scheduled time. Ask for your
tutor and be nice. This person is there to help you and give you some tips in the trade.
Your tutor will introduce you to the staff.
Planning of activities during the internship
In collaboration with your tutor, at the start of each day, you plan a list of daily activities to
accomplish in connection with your study program. This list will be very useful to you for the
internship evaluation as well as for the drafting of the report.
This daily planning of your schedule will facilitate your integration into the workplace, and will
allow you to check whether the activities planned and accepted before the internship are
respected.
First impression sheet
You first enter the information relating to your first impression and then provide details
on the course of the day. Expand all the points mentioned clearly and precisely. When
preparing your internship report, this sheet will also be very useful for you.
useful (see next page).
15
Daily reports
Each day that follows, you will complete your daily report. These reports will help you
write your final internship report and fuel the group discussion. The daily report is
presented in the form of a logbook which contains nine days of training (see next page).
You can also enter comments on the quality of your relations with the staff and
your overall assessment of the day.

3) Participation in tasks
During your internship, you will participate in various tasks related to your training. Your
participation will be at three levels:
- You will observe particular tasks;
- Collaborate in the execution of some of them;
- Run others in full.
Regardless of your level of participation, learn to listen to the directions of the person
supervising you first. Write down the information she gives you and, when she is
finished, ask questions. If any points remain unclear, please feel free to provide relevant
comments. Profitability is the main goal of any business. To achieve this, all members of
the organization must work together and manage their time effectively. As an intern,
you can make your contribution.
To avoid wasting time, establish your work plan, determine the order of execution of the
tasks, set yourself deadlines and make sure you have the necessary materials in your
possession. Always complete a job before starting another, unless directed otherwise. Work
conscientiously, demonstrate thoroughness, welcome feedback from your colleagues and,
while upholding company standards. The quality of the work performed is also very
important for the employer, since the image and the success of the company depend on it.
Finally, make sure that the results of your work comply with the instructions given. During
their execution and at the end, do a self-check and a self-correction and check the
satisfaction of the supervisor.
Appreciation of activities
The last minutes of an internship day are usually reserved for the tutor to assess the
intern's activities. This person will appreciate your attitude, your behavior and the work
done if necessary. She will also suggest ways to improve your weak points.
4) End of internship stay
To take stock of what you have achieved, request a meeting with your company tutor
and your trainer responsible for the internship. The three of you will discuss the
progress of your internship using your daily reports. You will then debrief. Ask your
tutor to complete the participation evaluation grid.

employer. The trainee also has to send a thank-you letter in turn, even if the employer
does not offer him a job. This is an effective way to let the employer know that you are
available for a job. You are presented with a sample thank you letter to help you write
your own.

III- Comparison of initial perceptions with the realities of the industrial environment
1) Internship report
With the logbook duly completed, the trainee, upon returning from the internship, must write a
report on its progress.
The notes recorded in the logbook represent the bulk of the content of the report. Like any
other document of the same type, the internship report is drawn up and presented
according to standards. The report has three main parts: introduction, development and
conclusion.
Introduction
The introduction specifies the subject of your report. Without anticipating development, we find the
following elements:
- Terms and dates of the internship;
- Data on host company;
- Presentation of the tutor and the service to which the trainee was attached;
- List of points dealt with in the report
Developmentt
Development is the body of the report. It includes the following:
- Description of the reception;
- Details on the context of the work;
- List of tasks observed as well as equipment used;
- Mention of knowledge put into practice and new learning carried out;
- Mention of strengths and weaknesses;
- Means proposed to remedy the weak points;
- Links between the training received and the needs of the workplace;
- Degree of satisfaction with the internship as well as the reasons.
Conclusion
The conclusion is the summary of the report; it recalls the essence of what has been presented. It
contains the following points:
- Summary of the elements developed in the report;
- Comments on the relevance of the internship as a complement to the training.
21
Orally present your final report. Your intervention should include the following points:
- Presentation of your internship location;
- Precision of the main tasks carried out;
- List of aspects of the job that correspond to the training received as well as those that
differ from it;
- Comparison of your perception of the profession before and after the internship;
- Degree of satisfaction of the entire internship.
2) Collective reflection on the consequences of the internship
The assessment of your internship in a company being made, you are now able to express
your opinion on the practice of the trade and to compare with your class colleagues, your
initial perception of the realities of the environment.
