Reasons to choose stainless steel.
Stainless steel (an iron alloy containing at least 10 percent chromium) is most commonly
used to make steel fittings for hydraulic systems. Stainless steel has the strength and
reliability of pure steel and high chemical and corrosion resistance. Thanks to these qualities,
this material is well suited for use in hydraulics, particularly in conditions where the liquid or
the environment is corrosive. The increased resistance to corrosion increases the life of the
hose assemblies. The strength of stainless steel at low temperatures is much higher than that
of carbon steel. Industrial stainless steel fittings are often rated at 10,000 psi. Inch and
specially designed stainless steel fittings can handle pressures up to 20,000 psi. Inch.
Reliable, durable, corrosion-resistant stainless steel fittings generally cost more than fittings
made from other materials.
Durable fittings for aggressive environments
When Corrosion Resistance is Vital Stainless Steel is the Perfect Fit.
The hydraulic system's characteristics determine what material the fitting should be made of,
whether it requires a metal protective coating or a protective coating from another material.
Unsuitable material can cause equipment failure and production shutdown just a few months
after commissioning, even if the design life is many years. Designed for corrosive
environments, Parker stainless steel hose fittings withstand corrosive environments better
than any other metal commonly found in hydraulic hose systems.
For aggressive environments, it is recommended to use stainless steel since the interaction of
alloy elements with the environment does not lead to corrosion. These elements react with
oxygen present in the water and form a very thin stable film consisting of corrosion products:
metal oxides and hydroxides. Chromium plays a major role in reactions with oxygen to form
a film of corrosion products. Virtually all 316L Stainless Steel Tube contains at least 10
percent chromium.
Four reasons to choose stainless steel
So why choose stainless steel fittings for hydraulic hose applications? There are four reasons
for this.
1. Stainless steel has the strength and reliability of pure steel and high chemical and corrosion
resistance. Thanks to these qualities, this material is well suited for use in hydraulics,
particularly in conditions where the liquid or the environment is corrosive.
2. Due to the increased corrosion resistance, the service life of the hose assemblies is
increased.
3. The strength of 316 Stainless Steel Pipe at low temperatures is much higher than that of
carbon steel. Industrial stainless steel fittings are often rated at 10,000 psi. And specially
designed stainless steel fittings can handle pressures up to 20,000 psi. Inch.
4. Reliable, durable, corrosion-resistant 304 Stainless Steel Pipe fittings generally cost more
than other materials. However, fittings are required in many areas where the severe corrosive
attack is present. First of all, these are:

oil and gas industry / offshore equipment;

chemical treatment;

food industry;

medical devices and instruments;

production of agricultural fertilizers;

marine engineering
Stainless steel hose fittings withstand corrosive agents better than any other metal commonly
used in hydraulic hose systems. Due to the increased corrosion resistance, the service life of
the hose assemblies is increased.
