ABHISHEK AGGARWAL, 24 years old Währinger Gürtel 18-20 • Medical University of Vienna • Vienna • Austria The research interest of our group is to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms which regulate the anti-proliferative effects of calcium in colorectal cancer. One of the candidate molecules involved in this process is the CaSR, a possible tumor suppressor, which is significantly down-regulated during colorectal carcinogenesis. During my PhD studies I plan to elucidate whether the CaSR mediates the tumor inhibitory properties of calcium in the colon. I expect that this conference would give me the possibility to learn more about the pleiotropic effects of calcium in the various fields of physiology, molecular biology and cell signalling. As I am only in my first year of PhD study, I believe the conference would greatly help me to understand better the complex research in the multifaceted field of calcium signalling. I am excited to have the opportunity to attend this conference at such an early point in my career and to interact with leaders in the field. This meeting will be an excellent platform for me to gain new insights, ideas and incentives for my future research. One of the main goals of the ECS is to promote scientific excellence in young researchers, attending the meeting will avail me to gain a broad scientific knowledge for my future study.
