L'Europe met au débat ses engagements pour la COP 21
La Commission européenne a publié son projet de contribution pour les négociations
internationales sur le climat. Le texte qualifié de "flou artistique" par le RAC, doit être
adopté par les Etats membres au plus tard le 20 mars.
La Commission européenne a publié le 25 février sa vision d'une Union de l'Energie
accompagnée de son projet de réduction d'émissions de gaz à effet de serre en vue de
la COP de Paris. Lors de la conférence de Varsovie de 2013, les pays avaient décidé
d'annoncer leurs propres engagements climatiques avant le 31 mars 2015.

International Forum Urges Adoption of Climate-Smart Agriculture,

Speaking at the International Forum on Agriculture and Climate Change, which was organized by the
Government of France as the first in a series of events leading up to the December 2015 climate change
conference, José Graziano da Silva, Director-General of Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN
(FAO), urged a “paradigm shift” in agriculture. He described today's predominant model of agricultural
production as “not suitable for the new food security challenges of the 21st century.”

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the France-based NGO Plan Bleu
supported a regional conference in Malta, in which stakeholders and Parties to the
Barcelona Convention reviewed a revised sustainable development strategy for the
Mediterranean region. Participants considered six thematic areas of the revised
Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD): seas and coasts;
natural resources; rural development and food; climate; sustainable cities; transition
towards a green economy; and governance.

on Tuesday, in accordance with its procedures, to designate Vice-Chair Ismail El Gizouli as Acting
IPCC Chair. The designation of El Gizouli follows the decision by Rajendra K Pachauri, PhD, to step
down as Chairman of the IPCC effective today.

Nouveaux scénarios d'évolution pour la mer Méditerranée à la fin du
siècle
Une équipe réunissant des chercheurs du CNRM-GAME (Météo-France/CNRS), du LEGOS
(IRD/CNRS/Université de Toulouse) et de deux laboratoires espagnols (IMEDEA et Puertos del
Estado) vient de réaliser l'ensemble de projections climatiques régionales le plus complet à ce jour pour
la mer Méditerranée. Les simulations mettent en évidence réchauffement de 2 à 4 °C des eaux de
surface d'ici à la fin du siècle et des modifications dans la circulation océanique dans le bassin.

Quelques enseignements du « hiatus » dans le réchauffement climatique
Pourquoi le réchauffement atmosphérique global a-t-il ralenti de 1998 à 2012 ? Cette question, discutée
à l'issue de la publication du 5e rapport du GIEC, a été récemment revisitée par les chercheurs du
Centre national de recherches météorologiques - Groupe d'étude de l'atmosphère météorologique
(Météo-France/CNRS). Les résultats confirment que la variabilité naturelle du Pacifique tropical joue
un rôle majeur dans le ralentissement du réchauffement, mais relancent également le débat sur
l'existence d'autres contributions et sur la manière d'évaluer la sensibilité des modèles aux forçages
anthropiques. Ils impliquent par ailleurs une prochaine ré-accélération du réchauffement global

Fish farm parasite drug threatens wildlife
A drug used to treat parasite infections at fish farms can contaminate the surrounding environment and
threaten local wildlife, a new study shows. Following a week-long treatment at a Norwegian salmon
farm, the authors found concentrations of an anti-sea-lice drug that were high enough to kill some crabs,
shrimps and lobsters. However, they suggest the drug is not likely to pose a risk to humans.

micro-plastic pollution. Microplastics are

Sea urchins, sand dollars thrived with time
New work on echinoids -- marine animals like sea urchins and sand dollars -- gives scientists a reason
to rethink a classical pattern of evolution. Fossil-based studies have traditionally indicated that groups
of organisms diversify fastest early in their evolutionary history, followed by a steady decline through
time. But the new work on Echinoidea shows that rates of evolution were actually lowest at the group's
onset and increased through episodic bursts associated with changes in feeding strategies.

Marseille : en pole pour lutter contre les déchets marins
Depuis trois ans, dans quinze pays, l'Europe a lancé un grand programme intitulé "Les
déchets marins dans les mers d'Europe. La sensibilisation et la coresponsabilisation".

La longue crise à Lyon 2 illustre le malaise des étudiants vacataires

C'est une crise qui s'enlise à l'université Lyon-2. Depuis six mois, plusieurs dizaines
d'enseignants vacataires, également étudiants, travaillent sans salaire et parfois sans
contrat de travail. En signe de protestation, ils ont d'abord décidé d'une rétention des
notes des partiels de janvier, avant d'amplifier leur mouvement par une grève. Les
départements touchés sont ceux qui ont le plus recours à ces jeunes travailleurs
précaires : sciences politiques, anthropologie et sociologie.
